Museum Box

Museumbox is an outstanding tool that allows for a compartmentalized, but comprehensive basis for focusing on a particular subject, or multiple components of a subject. Like a box, the Museumbox is structured so that you can evaluate up to six sides of a selected topic. Additionally, multiple boxes can be added to one assignment to create individual lessons that offer multiple ways to engage content. Several research studies have shown that students comprehend instruction when best delivered in short, as opposed to lengthy text. The Museumbox tool’s construct is perfect for relatively short, concise written summaries, and each can be crafted to address a different skill set.

I’m not, and have never been, a teacher in a school environment, but firmly believe that all instruction, when possible, should be rooted in a relevant, real-world context. With regard to literacy/language arts instruction, Museumbox provides a way to build multiple (up to six per box) engagement areas around a central topic or idea. Additionally, it would be easy to incorporate UDL principles, by highlighting different ways to engage the central topic with various methods that leverage student learning styles.

The example Museumbox tool that I’ve created is centered on economics. The reason I’ve selected this topic rests with its current relevance globally, within the United States, and impact on every American family individually. Teaching this subject through Museumbox allows for easy development of skill level appropriate lessons that address core standards and can be as complex or elementary as the instructor deems necessary to help student progress.
